New Lighting

In the past, I've been running some very yellow Amazon-branded lights. For the record, I have no problem using low-end lights. Are they as bright or reliable? No, but they get the job done and you can replace them as often as you need because they run 1/10th the cost of high-end manufacturers' products.

The problem is that I didn't have substantial lighting for snow driving, and I was hoping for a bit more of an amber light. If you're looking for amber lights on Amazon, expect that all amber lights are actually a yellow-green. That's just a universal fact.

I wanted to replace those yellow lights and also see if I could squeeze a light bar under the Evo bumper. Decided to go with a Nilight 31" light bar and some 3E pod lights (x4). Rather than get something yellow, I went with clear and then added two layers of an amber window tint.

The window tint was really easy to apply for the pod lights. 4 easy hex bolts and the plastic cover is off. Used some soapy water to apply and then cut around the edges once both layers were applied. Really happy with the color, but it might not have hurt to add 1 more layer.

The real trouble was with the light bar. I had tested disassembling another Nilight pod light and found that the clear plastic cover slid out easily from the side, even though it compromised the white waterproof silicone strip along the edges. That was a big problem with the light bar. After sliding the plastic out (no easy task), the silicone strips would catch as I slid the plastic back in. Ultimately they were very stretched out and a layer of the amber tint was slightly torn along the edge in one place. Not a lot of fun. In hindsight, I would've tried to install both layers without disassembling, most likely using a heat gun to conform it.

Ran some tests at night and these pod lights are super bright. While the pods are spots, the light bar is a spot/flood combo so it provided similar lighting to my old yellow lights. Though not DOT-approved, I could see getting away with using this on-road with some snow. Only in a really serious blizzard could those pod lights be justified.
